Great Russian Circus on Ice

Almost all disciplines known in traditional circus are represented in circus show on ice. At the same time even the simplest trick looks much more difficult, dangerous and spectacular when done by artists in skates. The narrow ice ring (only forty feet in diameter) on which the whole action takes place, makes the show even more dynamic and provides fantastic possibilities for choreography. Diversity to the show by circus tricks makes this genre very attractive both for children and adults. For more than 25 years circus on ice show were presented in Russia by two state-owned companies. Many circus celebrities and stars wholeheartedly went for this new kind of circus show. One of them was Mr. Sergey Ryshkoff, professional circus artist, one of those who gave birth to ice circus art in Russia and introduced new types of acts to ice programs (spring boards and ice acrobats). For more then 20 years he had performed in circus and ice circus shows. In December 1991, using new economic possibilities, which had appeared with coming of the first president of Soviet Union Mr. Gorbachov, help of "TERRA" Holding Company (Moscow, Russia) the largest and most prominent publishing and mass media concern in Russia, great personal experience and desire to make the dream come true, Mr. Ryshkoff, set the first independent privately owned circus company.

Most of the young artists (whose average age now is about 25) had been professional skaters before they joined the company and therefore they had to learn difficult circus disciplines. Some of the performers came from traditional circus, a few of them represented Russian circus dynasties. Some genres in the show may be considered unique because they have not been performed on ice since long ago (perches, spring boards) and even traditional circus recognizes these as the most difficult to perform. While the new show was still under preparation some acts were chosen for the festival celebrate the 20th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates in Abu-Dabi. That was the first step to unconditional success. By today the company has already performed through-out Russia and has become well known abroad. In 1993 it participated in the Edinburgh Art Festival and received the highest rating there. During their 10 days performance in London they appeared in one of the most popular BBC TV-programs. In 1993 citizens of 9 cities in the Netherlands applauded to the artists. In 1994-95 they won the hearts of views during their tour in Japan. Korea and Japan won't ever forget the circus' tour of 1996. In August of 1996 during the Olympic Games the company performed in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. In 1996-97 they performed in Paris (France), participated in cultural program of famous tennis cup "Monaco-Open" in Monte Carlo in April 1997, made an outstanding tour in Austria in fall of 1997, presented Christmas shows in Royal Circus in Brussels (Belgium). In spring of 1998 the company performed in Buenos Aires (Argentina). In winter of 1998 - 1999 they had a tour in Canada, they performed in the biggest hockey halls.

In spring and summer of 1999 the troupe took part in a big project in Japan with US $ 25 million budget; it was a joint project of four countries (USA, England, Russia, Japan) with participation of the most famous Japanese singer Yuming. The project was called "Shangri-La I". In the fall of 2000 the circus performed in Brazil. Audience applauded to the artists in the biggest hall Marakanazinho in Rio de Janeiro, in Sao Paulo and few other cities of the country. The company presented Christmas and New Year shows 2001 in Barcelona (Spain) and in Portugal (Lisbon, Pavilion "Atlantico") in 2002.

In summer of 2002 the troupe performed in Malaysia in Genting Highlands Resort, city of entertainment and the biggest casino of Southeast of Asia. In the winter of 2002-2003 the company presented Christmas shows in Royal Circus in Brussels (Belgium).

In the spring and summer of 2003 the troupe took part again in a big project in Japan with participation of the most famous Japanese singer Yuming. It was also a joint project of four countries (USA, England, Russia, Japan). The project was called "Shangri-La II", and in the October of 2003 the show performed also in Hong Kong (Coliseum Hall).

In 2004 the circus performed in Madrid (Spain) and in Seoul (Korea). They did performances in Paris (France) in the winter of 2004 - 2005. In the February of 2005 the company took part in â Eisgala Davosâ in Switzerland - a project of â Art on iceâ company. It was a joint show of the artists of â Extraordinary ice circusâ and world stars of figure skating.

In the Summer of 2005 the show performed in Harbin (China) and the artists of the company took part in the opening ceremony of the Harbin Economical Exhibition.

In the winter of 2005-2006 the company presented Christmas shows in Royal Circus in Brussels (Belgium).

In the spring of 2006 the circus performed in Germany (Dortmund). In the summer of 2006 the show took part in the opening ceremony of the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). In the fall of 2006 the circus performed in Seoul (South Korea).
