On the Historical Stage of the Bolshoi Theater, as part of the Cherry Forest Festival of Arts, the St. Petersburg Ballet Theater of Boris Eifman toured. The Moscow premiere was the new work of the master “Pygmalion Effect.”
This is Eifman’s first comedy in many years. Prior to this, the maestro staged performances psychologically tense, revealing the secrets of the human subconscious. Although at the early stage of their activity, cheerful, filled with a subtle sense of humor ballets were not uncommon on the poster of this theater. Many viewers still remember about such works as “Crazy Day, or The Marriage of Figaro”, “Intrigues of Love”, “Twelfth Night, or Anything”, “Pinocchio”.
The play of the Bernard Show “Pygmalion” was transferred to the ballet before Eifman. So, the choreographer Dmitry Bryantsev, inspired by the idea of director Alexander Belinsky, back in 1977 put the movie hit “Galatea” to the music of Frederick Low and Timur Kogan. The stars of the national ballet Ekaterina Maksimova and Maris Liepa starred in the television show.
The current ballet incarnation of the famous classic of English literature also has its own distinctive features. The name itself refers to a well-known psychological phenomenon when people subconsciously behave as expected from them. “In each of us lies a creative energy that gives a person the ability to self-development. However, to change himself, a person often needs someone who is ready to awaken the dormant potential in him, ”says Boris Eifman about his plan.
