The Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theater completed the XXII Festival of Russian Art in Cannes with ballet named after Rudolf Nuriev

Before the start of the performance, the audience literally took the Cannes Palace of Festivals by attack, TASS reports.

The Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theater triumphantly completed on Tuesday the XXII Festival of Russian Art, which took place in Cannes on the French Riviera for five days — from August 23 to 27. The final of the show was a show of the ballet La Bayadere, dedicated to the memory of the great dancer Rudolf Nureyev.

Before the start of the performance, the audience literally took the Cannes Palace of Festivals by attack: along the famous stairs covered with a red carpet, people walked in a continuous stream. So by 20:30 local time (21:30 Moscow time) the hall, designed for 2.5 thousand seats, was filled to capacity.

After brief ceremonial speeches, the curtain opened and the La Bayadere appeared on the stage – the classic version of Marius Petipa to the music of Ludwig Minkus. The love story of the temple dancer Nikiya and the noble warrior Solor, which turned into a tragedy because of the jealousy of the Great Brahmin and the daughter of Raja Gamzatti, was watched with unremitting attention. The performance, which lasted about three hours, ended with a well-deserved ovation.
