The familiar and beloved melodies of Verdi’s opera “Rigoletto”  can be heard from the stage of the National Opera of Ukraine in May.

The plot of the opera “Rigoletto” by Victor Hugo’s drama “The King Amuses Himself”, written in 1832. It is this story Verdi considered the best of all, put them to the music.After the premiere of the opera in Milan in 1853, Verdi remarked: “I am pleased with myself and I think I will not write anything better.” Perhaps this to some extent corresponds to his life story: none of the following works by the composer in the depth of his musical characteristics and tragic pathos surpassed Rigoletto.

The premiere of the opera “Rigoletto” on the Kiev stage took place in 1975, staged by the famous director Irina Molostova. It is in this formulation that the opera is still going on.
