From June 15 to June 22, a new version of the play “Carmen” will be shown on the stage of the Yubileiny DS in St. Petersburg. Ilya Averbukh became the producer of the play, and all the action takes place on the ice.
The strongest Russian figure skaters will present the story of the gypsy Carmen to the audience. 80 artists participate in the show, over 200 costumes and several tons of multi-tiered scenery are used. Olympic champion Alexei Yagudin will play the role of bullfighter Escamillo, Olympic champion Roman Kostomarov – the role of Jose. Lithuanian figure skater, thirteen-time champion of Lithuania, prize-winner of European and world championships Margarita Drobyazko – the role of the fatal Spaniard Carmen.
“Carmen” is called the ice musical, to give a precise definition of the genre of this show is quite difficult. The musical will combine classical and modern music – Georges Bizet and Roman Ignatiev. In the performance there are parties in Spanish, live music, flamenco, percussion instruments. However, the main characters are the figure skaters – stars from the Averbukh team: Alexey Yagudin, Margarita Drobyazko, Povilas Vanagas, Oksana Domnina, Roman Kostomarov, Maria Petrova, Alexey Tikhonov, Albena Denkova, Maxim Stavisky.
