The suite from the ballet Spartak opened the III International Opera and Ballet Festival in Chersonesos.

More than 150 artists of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater took part in the production of gladiators’ revolt in the ancient scenery of the ancient Khersoness fortress. The main parties were made by Sergey Polunin and Osiel Guneo.

The festival opens with the ballet Spartak. In the party Crassus – world star Sergei Polunin. He will now come to Crimea often. The famous dancer is the acting rector of the opening Academy of Choreography.

“This is a new school. I believe that she will be one of the best schools in the world. This is our goal. I am very happy about this because talented children who do not have the opportunity to leave somewhere, or their parents do not want to leave, they will have the opportunity to get a better education here, ”said Sergey Polunin.

Ivan Vasiliev will dance in the next performance – now he is warming up. He says that even in the open air, the wind helps.

“Of course, it’s always nice to dance where there is some kind of energy. Here a lot of different emotions visit. I think that this will only benefit, especially a performance such as Spartak, ”said Honored Artist of Russia Ivan Vasilyev.

The first two festivals in Chersonesos were opera. From this year – also ballet. Once the Horde destroyed the ancient city and turned the Crimea into a slave market. Millions of slaves were sold here. So the history of this place has something in common with the plot of the ballet Spartak. To build such a theater in a historical place, experts from the Institute of the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences were involved in the work. Choreographer Yuri Grigorovich made a new edition of the ballet specifically for the festival.

“Usually a three-act big ballet. And he made a special version for us, where there will be two acts, where the squeeze of all the best scenes. Therefore, many thanks, ”emphasized the artistic director of the Mikhailovsky Theater and the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater Vladimir Kekhman.

There  is an international team of soloists in this performance. Everyone is full of emotions.

The festival runs until August 17th.
